Aujourd'hui I was bed-ridden with freshers' flu, and to try and give my immune system a boost, I purchased some effervescent vitamin tablets from Sainsbury. These are great - they give you absolutely all the vitamins you need to get back to full health, just chuck a tablet into a glass of water and let your illness fizz away as the orange-flavoured tablet dissolves in the water before your very eyes.
Earlier on, I had tried to tidy the kitchen despite my ill-state of health, and so the jug that I habitually take to bed with me to quench my thirst throughout the night was temporarily absent from my room residing in the dishwasher, so I took a two large glasses of water to bed with me. I then had a great idea; why don't I sling a berocca tablet in each of them? You know, so that should I get thirsty during the night, then not only will I quench my thirst, but also load myself with vitamins so that I get better sooner.
I tossed a tablet in each glass and popped them on the windowsill, then I pulled the blackout blind down, so I wouldn't be woken up by the light coming from the streetlights outside flickering on and off randomly throughout the night. I took two glasses to compensate for the absence of my jug of water, as I drink a lot. But this night I was so ill, I slept solidly. I didn't get thirsty.
My housemate Nicoleta woke me up at 10.30 am worried about me being ill. She made me two slices of toast, with plenty of butter and jam on top and a cup of sweet tea...I was being well looked after. She was shocked not only because of the general untidiness of my room, but how cold it was. Everyone who knows me, knows that I have to sleep with the window open in order to fall asleep, as I get very hot at night.
Poor me, I was so ill, I groaned weakly and asked her to kindly close the window. So, Nicoleta had to jump on my bed and pull the blind up for me. There on the windowsill stood two full glasses of bright-orange berocca-infused water. Except judging from her face, she didn't think they were berocca (as she's Romanian and doesn't know of these type of vitamin tablets), instead she looked in horror as she thought I had used the glasses to pee in them during the night. Aww... Nicoleta served you breakfast in bed? How nice of her! :-)
Interestingly, it was found recently in a study that taking vitamin C while ill has no positive effect on recovery while taking it while in full health has a marked effect on avoiding illness. You should then be drinking your piss tonic on a daily basis.
